About the Position
Fetch Specialty & Veterinary Emergency Centers of Fort Myers and Bonita Springs is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our Oncology team. In this role, you will provide essential support to our veterinary professionals while delivering high-quality care to pets diagnosed with cancer. Your commitment to patient care and client communication will play a vital role in helping families navigate this difficult journey.
Responsibilities:
- Be knowledgeable about safety standards in all areas of the veterinary hospital
- Proper and safe animal restraint
- Perform TPR's
- Input data into electronic medical record system
- Remove sutures/staples/drains with assistance
- Remove bandages
- Perform nail trims, ear cleaning, and anal gland expression
- Clean surgical instruments and wrap for sterilization
- Sterilize wrapped packs and pouches
- Properly set up fluid bag for IV or SQ administration (with a technician assistance)
- Assist with procedural preparation and maintaining a timely start to procedures
- Setting up for and cleaning up after procedures and maintaining equipment
- Be able to work with heating pads/blankets, scales, thermometers, otoscopes, clippers/blades, incubators, and perform daily maintenance on these items
- Perform emergency procedures including: control bleeding, administer oxygen therapy and CPR with assistance
- Properly use laboratory equipment including CBC machine, chemistry analyzer, coagulation analyzer, microscope, assays, etc.
- Properly handle all types of laboratory specimens and assist with submission to appropriate laboratories
- Assist with radiographic positioning and processing including set up of equipment and input of patient information
- Assisting with restraint for ultrasound and input patient info
- Cleaning, stocking, and helping to maintain proper care of the hospital equipment
- Alerting inventory manager when medications and supplies are low
Ideal Candidate
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience in a veterinary setting preferred, especially in oncology
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle and restrain animals safely
- Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Compassionate and dedicated to providing excellent patient care
